Press advertisement with illustration

La Española began advertising when black-and-white illustration was the only reproduction technique in the press. They were advertisements produced by painters, who also acted as advertising draughtsmen. The basic elements of these advertisements consisted of a human representation and a prominent presence of the product and the brand. These advertisements were intended to stand out from the crowded content of the newspaper, creating visually lighter spaces that managed to capture the reader’s attention.
